Lyzz Jones, an editor at the York Daily Record/Sunday News, is featured in an article about rising stars in the newspaper industry in the April issue of Editor & Publisher magazine.

Jones, who lives in North Codorus Township, has worked at the newspaper since 1998 and was named editor of - a website that covers high school athletics in southcentral Pennsylvania - in December.

The Editor & Publisher article is titled "25 Under 35" and highlights those who have worked "to embrace sustainable business models, challenge conventional ways of thinking, and make (the newspaper) industry an exciting place to work again."

As editor of GameTimePA, Jones, who turned 36 in February, has assumed a regional management position in which she directs the growth and direction for high school sports coverage at all of the Pennsylvania newspapers managed by Digital First Media.

She is currently helping to manage GameTimePA's expansion to include coverage of Lancaster County. Plans are also under way for GameTimePA to push its footprint eastward toward Philadelphia later this year.

In the Editor & Publisher article, Jones gives the following advice to young professionals in the newspaper industry: "Don't do something just because it's always been done that way. Many journalists have the opportunity and ability to be true innovators but won't take the leap away from tradition. Re-think how you do your job, embrace new ways to reach your audience, and don't be afraid to fail."

Jones is a Susquehannock High School graduate and has a bachelor's degree from Towson University and a master's degree in sports management from Millersville University.

She has previously worked as an editorial assistant, high school sports beat reporter, sports copy editor and assistant sports editor at the Daily Record/Sunday News.
