Cody Bollinger has seen buzzer beaters before. In fact, the Eastern York senior was at the Giant Center when older brother Nathan's last-second shot beat Lancaster Catholic in the 2010 District 3 Class AAA championship game.

While Tuesday night's game against Bermudian Springs wasn't quite as big as that contest, it would give the Golden Knights a share of first place in Division III of the YAIAA.

This time it was Cody with the ball and Nate in the home stands at Eastern. In a wild scramble, Cody Bollinger picked up the ball launched a 3-pointer and nailed it, before getting mobbed in a wild celebration of Knights fans after a 57-54 overtime win over Bermudian Springs.

"When I caught the ball, I just kind of remembered (last week's last-second loss at York) Suburban and it was catch and shoot. I just spun and kind of threw it in," Cody Bollinger said. "When the ball went in, my heart kind of dropped. We were right next to this crowd, it is going to be in my ear for awhile."

Needing a 3-pointer for the tie with the clock winding down, the Eagles missed three straight shots from behind the arc, but grabbed all three offensive rebounds, the last of which was scooped up by Alex Orwig who nailed a 3 with seven seconds left.

Eastern coach Jon Reichard was glad to be on the reverse side of a buzzer-beater after last Friday's heartbreaker.

"Once they scored with that little bit of time left, the object -- and they did a good job with it -- is get it in bounds and whoever has it, make a move towards the bucket," he said. "(Bollinger) had the common sense to throw it up. At least we had a shot at it. If not, we would have taken it to double overtime."

The Knights closed their regular season with a 11-3 league record and 16-6 overall mark. York Suburban finished with the same division record, but owned the tiebreaker over Eastern after winning both meetings between the two teams. The Knights enter the YAIAA tournament as the third seed and will play South Western, 6:30 p.m. Saturday at Spring Grove.

"This section is fun, it really is ... Throw Susquehannock in there too. All four teams really compete," Reichard said. "Every time we got up (Bermudian) answered."

The Eagles fell to 10-4, 16-5 and have the task of opening the YAIAA playoffs facing William Penn, 8 p.m. Saturday at Red Lion.

"I was really proud of our kids," Bermudian coach Tom Flaherty said. "We are happy to be in (YAIAA tournament). I told the guys that. It will be a challenge, but our guys like facing challenges."

Bermudian needed heroics to get to overtime, then again to tie it late in the extra session. Austin Hartzell's driving layup with 56 seconds left in regulation made it a one-point game and Zach Stroup tied it at 48 with a free throw with 11 ticks remaining.

Silas Murran opened overtime with a basket, giving the Eagles the lead, but Eastern senior Dalton Reichard answered with a 3-pointer. Murran's free throw tied the score again, but Knight forward Grum Kebede canned another trey for a 57-54 lead, setting up Orwig's play.

Led by three each from Broguen Nicholas and Dalton Reichard, Eastern drained 10 3-pointers. Nicholas finished with 16 points, Reichard added 14, Bollinger finished with eight.

Nicholas' 3-pointer two minutes into the fourth quarter gave the Knights their biggest lead, 45-38.

Neil Murran scored eight of his 16 points in the first quarter, helping Bermudian take a 21-17 lead after one. Silas Murran posted 14 and Stroup had nine.

Eastern honored its seniors for senior night, but had a special ceremony for Brandon Hohenadel, a senior who is being treated for leukemia. Much of the crowd wore orange shirts in recognition of Hohenadel.
