The Dover girls' basketball team is 4-0, but still not satisfied.

There are things to work at on each side of the ball, but after Wednesday's 52-31 win against William Penn, the Eagles are pleased with the progress they're making.

"We are extremely happy to be 4-0," Dover head coach Troy Lokhaiser said. "But by no means are we where we want to be yet."

The Eagles started fast on Wednesday and were able to empty their bench as all 11 players saw time, with nine of them scoring at least one point.

Alayah Hall led the Eagles with 14 points, eight of which came in the first quarter. On several occasions, Hall used her speed and dribbling ability to make a quick transition from the perimeter to the lane for an easy layup.

"I've been working on my ball handling," Hall said.

Lokhaiser said of Hall, "She certainly leads us in a lot of statistical categories every night and she does what we need most nights."

Work is the key word for the Eagles:

"I've been working on my shooting and pull-up jump shot," Hall said.

"Our rebounding needs a lot of work," Lokhaiser noted. "Our defense needs a lot of work. We do see improvement and we are heading in the right direction."

On Wednesday, the Eagles led 15-7 after the first quarter and ran off the first six points of the second quarter to take a commanding 21-7 advantage.

Kara Funk scored eight of her 12 points during the second quarter for Dover.

"Alayah and Kara had a nice start to the game for us," Lokhaiser said. "The first five (starters) got after it initially and got us out to the lead early."

Dover led 32-9 at halftime, as the Bearcats (1-3) scored just two points in the second quarter.

In the first half, the Eagles were 12-of-24 from the field as William Penn was just 4-of-23.

Dover pushed its lead to 28 points on a few occasions during the third quarter.

The third quarter also marked the lone period the Bearcats scored double digit points.

William Penn freshman Chyna Steele led all scorers with 15 points.
