HERSHEY -- Two YAIAA wrestlers earned victories in Friday's quarterfinal round of the PIAA Class AAA Wrestling Championships, now one step from a shot at a state championship.

Central York's Dylan Chatterton (106) and Kennard-Dale's Chance Marsteller (160) will compete in the Class AAA semifinals this morning at 9 a.m. at Hershey's Giant Center, assuring themselves a medal to bring home.

Three other league competitors -- Dallastown's Rodney Sunday (126), Spring Grove's Mason Bentzel (145) and Eastern York's Alex Cooley (195) -- earned victories during consolation action to clinch PIAA hardware.

Chatterton (30-2) registered the initial takedown of Michael Scheetz from Northampton 42 seconds into the bout. Chatterton, a freshman, turned his sophomore opponent to his back and nailed down the fall with just seconds remaining in the first period. It was Chatterton's second pin in as many matches in his first appearance at the state tournament.

His semifinal opponent is Solanco's Connor Sheehan (35-4). The junior won the District 3 title two weeks ago but Chatterton, who finished third in that tournament, lost in the other semifinal match.

Marsteller, looking for gold medal No. 3, was his usual dominating self against Abner Thompson of Academy Park.

The junior racked up three takedowns and a three-point near-fall to sprint out to a 9-2 lead after the first period. He finished off the 3:20 technical fall with two more takedowns and six back points in the second period.

Marsteller (38-0) will face Greater Latrobe's Zack Zavatsky (40-1) in the semifinals. Zavatsky beat Easton's Evan Disora in the quarterfinals.

In another quarterfinal, Bentzel went head-to-head with one of the 145-pound favorites, Solomon Chishko of Canon-McMillan. After scoreless first period, the 9-0 Chishko, who missed the entire regular season with an elbow injury, scored an escape and a takedown in the second period before riding out the Bentzel for a 3-1 decision.

Bentzel (41-5) came back with a solid 8-4 decision over Southern Lehigh's Matthew Mirth in the consolation, grabbing three back points with a cradle.

"I was really impressed with how he took the loss. He bounced back really well," Spring Grove coach Tony Miller said.

Next up is Brian Estep out of District 7's Allderdice. The winner earns a top-six finish.

Sunday and Cooley both won bouts against quarterfinal losers to put themselves into the medal round.

At 126, Sunday produced a 5-2 decision over Punxsutawney freshman Kaleb Young. The junior will take on Colby Frank of Owen J. Roberts in this morning's consolation bracket.

Cooley, a 2012 PIAA medalist in Class AA, clinched his second state medal with a tight 1-0 decision over Parkland's Omar Haddad. His next opponent is a fellow District 3 competitor, Jan Johnson of Governor Mifflin. Johnson is the district champion.

Five YAIAA wrestlers saw their seasons end with consolation losses Friday afternoon, including four who earned preliminary round wins on Thursday.

Spring Grove's Zack Clingan (120), West York's Kyle Narber (170) and the Dallastown duo of Tanner Druck (152) and Cooper Deller (182) each lost quarterfinal round matches and then were unable to bounce back with a consolation win.

Narber's day was easily the toughest one of them all.

Against Chartiers Valley's Noah Wilps in the quarterfinals, the junior earned a stall point with three seconds left in regulation to tie the score at three. The bout went to the ultimate tiebreaker where Wilps was able to escape for the 5-4 win with 18 seconds left.

Narber then dropped a 3-2 heartbreaker in consolations to Nicolino Sevi of Nazareth.

Dallastown's Wes Hoover lost his only match Friday in a second-round consolation match at 138.
