EAST ROCKHILL — Pennridge's attack was leading the way on Wednesday night, scoring goals in bunches and at one point pushing the Rams into the lead over visiting Southern Lehigh.

A back-and-forth first half included substantial runs by both squads, with the score deadlocked on three separate occasions.

But after the break, the Spartans pulled away, allowing the Rams fewer and fewer opportunities as the game wore on and ultimately leaving the Pennridge turf with a 19-11 non-league victory.

"We didn't have enough possession in the second half, got out-ground balled a little bit," Rams coach Kevin Banks said. "And (Southern Lehigh's) outside shooting got affective."

The Spartans outscored Pennridge 6-2 in the third quarter to turn what had been a 10-8 lead into a 16-10 cushion.

Southern Lehigh had a prolific one-two punch in Ryan Kearns and Michael Nelson, who each racked up seven goals in the road victory. Not only were they fast, they were accurate. Kearns connected on seven of his 10 shots to help Southern Lehigh even its record to 2-2.

But young Pennridge was right there in the first half.

The Rams, led by Sean Fechter's four goals, pulled ahead 3-2 early and put together a 3-0 run midway through the second quarter. The Spartans had built an 8-4 lead but that 3-0 run by the Rams brought them right back within 8-7. Ethan Clemmer and Steven Puras had the Pennridge attack moving.

"The offense seems to be clicking," Banks said. "They're finding a rhythm and getting the ball in the net."

After Southern Lehigh's fast start in the third, the Rams got to within 13-10 but could not get closer. Still, Pennridge's sophomore-heavy squad, including Fechter, is showing promising signs of maturity.

"I like the way we're progressing," Banks said. "We have some things that we have to get together and clean up. But we're showing we're a resilient group."

Pennridge (2-4) is back on its home turf tonight at 6:30, when it hosts Suburban One League Continental Conference rival Central Bucks West.
