Field hockey

Episcopal Academy defeated Tower Hill School, 7-0, Thursday. Goals were scored by Maddie Bacskai (two), Margaux Paolino (two), Corinne Zanolli (two) and Callie Avellino. Assists were dished out by Maddie Bacskai, Lexie Curry, Taryn Gallagher, Christy Palazzese and Sydney Gibson. Strong defensive performances were given by Maddie Bacskai, Ali Rushton, and Corinne Kneizys. EA goalie Gianna Pileggi made six saves to earn her sixth shutout of the year.

Sacred Heart lost to Mount St. Joseph, 7-1, Thursday. The Lions received a goal from Mary Rose O'Donnell, and SHA goalie Natalie Hrabrick recorded 16 saves.

Villa Maria Academy defeated Merion Mercy Academy, 1-0, Thursday. Megan Parson scored, assisted by Addy Delgatto with 58 seconds left in the first half. Other Hurricane standouts included Erica Miller, Megan Vermeil, Sam Hickey and Emily Gravey.

Girls' tennis

Agnes Irwin defeated Springside Chestnut Hill, 7-0, Thursday. For the Owls (4-0, 2-0), at first singles, Ryshena Providence defeated Rosie Nagele, 6-0, 6-0. At second singles, Camille Smukler defeated Sarah Schacht, 6-1, 6-0. At third singles, Catie Burkhart won by a score of 6-0,6-1 over Aakanksha Sharma. At first doubles, Charlotte Buck and Callie Burkhart won by a score of 6-2,6-3 over Natlie Rohner and Federica Cristopfanilli. At second doubles, Caroline Greco and Emma Hill won by a score of 6-1,6-4,(10-6) over Sara Mathes and Hannah Brazler. At third doubles, Chase Robinson and Lei Lei Lui won by a score of 6-2, 6-4 over Sydney Weiss and Victoria Walters. At fourth doubles, Emma Collier and Kate Wahl won by a score of 6-3, 7-5 over Mel Graves and Corinne Leard.


Lower Merion defeated Springfield, 7-0, Thursday. At first singles, Simone Burde defeated Alyssa DiCandilo, 6-0, 6-0. At second singles, Rotem Blat defeated Emily Smith 6-0, 6-0. At third singles, Neve Brennan defeated Cassandra Enad, 6-0, 6-0. At first doubles, Noa Seligsohn and Sam Wakeley defeated Rachel Smith and Jenny Caggiano, 6-2, 6-0. At second doubles, Julia Heyman and Niki Snyder defeated Corey Falls and Rose McManus 6-0, 6-0. At third doubles, Elyssa Clauson and Alison Epstein defeated Stacy DiCandilo and Daniella Acquaye, 6-0, 6-1. At fourth doubles, Maria AuBuchon and Sarah Sitkoff won, 6-0, 6-0.

Shipley defeated Penn Charter, 5-2, Thursday, getting singles wins from sophomores Jill Nehrbas, Britt Lovett and McKinley Lovett. The Gators also got doubles wins from the teams of senior Julie Svigals and freshman Taylor Dumas, and sophomore Layna Podolsky and junior Jordan Gottlieb.

Girls' volleyball

Academy of Notre Dame Academy defeated Sacred Heart, 3-1, Thursday for its third win in its last four matches. Game scores were 25-18; 25-19; 20-25 and 25- 18. Ali Rae led the team with 14 assists and four aces while Shannon Quigley and Kristen Rogers combined for 13 kills.


Conestoga defeated Strath Haven, 188-192, Thursday. For the Pioneers (12-0-1, 8-0), senior John miller shot a one over par 36. Fellow senior Robert Olseski contributed with 37. Conestoga has been unbeaten for the past 23 matches. Other top scorers for Conestoga on the par 35 Springhaven CC layout were Mike Cook (38), Andrew Willner (38) and Steve Hildenbrand (39).

Malvern Prep finished second to Haverford School in the third league tournament match of the year Thursday. Malvern posted a team score of 232, six strokes behind first place Haverford School (226). Michael Davis shot a 1-over par 36 and was the low man for Malvern. Brendan Bacskai and fellow junior Michael Szipszky posted scores of 37 apiece. Michael Lamond also performed well, shooting 38.

Villa Maria Academy won its final AACA golf match of the regular season, beating Sacred Heart 270-329 Thursday at West Chester Golf & Country Club The Hurricane's Cara Basso medaled with a 42 over the par 36, 2,584-yard layout.
