It's definitely basketball season, but February is not a time when one thinks about track and field.

But those are the two sports that are behind this week's Athletes of the Week for the Lebanon region. Palmyra pole vaulter Tim Moses and fellow Cougar Kristen Smoluk earned the male and female honors following special efforts last week.

Moses cleared 15-6 on the pole vault Saturday to take gold at the Pennsylvania Track and Field Coaches Association's Indoor State Championships at Penn State University. Moses' height was a whole foot better than the second-place finisher from Chambersburg.

As for Smoluk, she came up with 19 points Saturday in an overtime district quarterfinal win against Eastern York, a game that saw Palmyra improve to 26-0 despite playing without leading scorer Carly Richardson.

Earlier in the week, Smoluk netted 14 points in a lopsided first-round victory over East Pennsboro.
