In need of a win, the Elco boys' basketball team got one thanks to some clutch foul shooting down the stretch Saturday.

The Raiders snapped a six-game losing streak and made 6-of-9 free throw attempts in final minutes to beat Tulpehocken 45-38 in New Schaefferstown. The non-league win makes Elco 4-11 overall this season.

The Raiders were clinging to a one-point lead with less than four minutes to play in the fourth quarter when they started making their free throws to hold off the Trojans (5-9). Elco had jumped out to leads of 17-9 after one and 25-18 by halftime before escaping late.

Colton Lawrence paced the Raiders with 14 points, while Austin Davis added 11.

  • Northern Lebanon 79, Hamburg 55: In Fredericksburg, the Vikings won for the eighth time in nine games thanks to a decisive third quarter that saw Northern Lebanon outscore the Hawks 22-14 to build up a commanding 58-42 lead. The non-league win makes NL 11-4 overall this winter.

    The Vikings made 10 3-pointers, four of which came from Sam Light, who led all scorers with 33 points. He was also 9-for-12 from the line. Isaac Ray drained a trio of 3s and finished with 18.

  • New Hope Academy 59, New Covenant 30: In York, New Hope Academy bolted out to a 24-1 first-quarter lead and never looked back, dealing the Flames their third straight loss and sending them to a 2-9 record.


    Nate Dawson was a bright spot for New Covenant with 22 points.

  • New Covenant 43, New Hope Academy 36: In a girls' game in York, the Flames won their third straight and for the fifth time in six games thanks to a 20-12 run through the second quarter that broke open a one-point game. New Covenant (5-3) got 15 points from Erin Haggard and 10 more out of Marcia Copenhaver in the victory.
