The high-school basketball season has reached the midway point, and players are starting to step up as the postseason draws near.

Two Lebanon County players who did just that last week were Palmyra's Adam Newhard and Lebanon Catholic's Abby Shay. For their efforts, they were named the Male and Female Athletes of the Week for the Lebanon region of

Newhard scored a total of 37 points in two games last week, but none were bigger than the 16 he netted in the fourth quarter of Friday's game against unbeaten Susquehanna Township that helped the Cougars pull off the upset. Newhard finished with 19 in the victory and also scored 18 two days earlier in a win against Lower Dauphin.

Meanwhile, Shay averaged 20 points per game last week, scoring over half of her team's points in a 22-point effort that came in a loss to powerful Lancaster Catholic on Wednesday. Then Friday, she tossed in 18 in a lopsided victory at Columbia.
