Coming off a 27-point loss to Lampeter-Strasburg on Friday night, the Lebanon Catholic girls' basketball team didn't exactly appear poised to do something special when it squared off with longtime state playoff rival Pottsville Nativity on Saturday.

So much for that theory.

On the strength of Holly Marinkov's seventh 3-point basket of the game with - get this - seven seconds left, the Beavers upended Nativity 56-54 in a non-league tussle on the Golden Girls' home floor.

Marinkov's game-winning "3," which came off a pass from Abby Shay, completed a 25-point fourth-quarter eruption by Catholic that erased a 39-31 deficit and helped the Beavers improve to 3-1.

Helene Reist supported Marinkov's heroics with 15 points and two 3s of her own, and Shay chipped in with 14 to help the Beavers overcome 3-for-10 free-throw shooting.

Olivia Andrefski led Nativity (2-2) with 24 points and was one of three Golden Girls in double figures.

Elsewhere Saturday:

  • Christian School of York 12, New Covenant 10: In York, neither the Flames nor their opponent ever caught fire in this extremely low-scoring contest.

New Covenant (0-2) went scoreless in the first quarter on the way to the defeat. Erin Haggard and Kayla Krall led the Flames with four points apiece.

The two teams combined to go 2 for 14 at the foul line.

  • Lebanon Catholic 75, Pottsville Nativity 41: In Pottsville, the Beavers bounced back emphatically from Friday's double OT loss to Lampeter-Strasburg to maul Nativity by 34 points.

Balanced scoring and a 21-point first quarter were the keys for Catholic (4-1). Alex Frattaroli and Anthony Thomas led the way with 15 points apiece, and Anthony Pletz added 13 and a pair of 3-point buckets. In all, nine different players scored for Scott Clentimack's club.

Jeff Yordy paced Nativity with nine points.
