In a close game for a good cause, the Greencastle-Antrim girls basketball team notched its 10th win of the season Saturday afternoon with a 40-33 victory over Milton Hershey in the opening game of the Dunks For Drew event.

"Greencastle has a nice team," Milton Hershey coach Nancy Black said. "This was our fourth game in four days, so our legs were pretty shot. But this game was for a good cause, so I'm glad they invited us to come down."

Both teams traded baskets in the first quarter - the game was tied four times - but the Spartans (1-19) eventually pulled ahead by four points.

The Blue Devils' defense showed up in the second period. Greencastle held Milton Hershey to just two points (both onf free throws) and took a 16-14 lead at the half.

"Playing a Saturday game is out of our routine," Blue Devils coach Mike Rhine said. "It was hard to get going in the first half, and it showed."

Greencastle gained some momentum in the second half. Six unanswered points were scored by Jane Herman, Katie Gelsinger (10 points, 11 rebounds) and Chloe Hoover, and the Blue Devils never relinquished the lead.

Herman (12 points) netted back-to-back 3-pointers for G-A as the third quarter wound down, making the score 28-23.

Milton Hershey's Amina Atkins tried to keep her team in the game with eight points in the final period, but the Blue Devils' Hannah Crist answered with six of her own as Greencastle (10-10) held on for the win.

"Hannah runs the court all day and doesn't seem to get tired out there," Rhine said.

"Herman had a really good game too ... everybody did. This was a great team win. We were glad to be part of this tournament. Helping grieving families is a wonderful cause and we want to do anything we can to help."

Crist, who finished with 14 points, agreed.

"It was good to be in the tournament and all of our girls did good tonight," she said. "We didn't know much about Milton Hershey coming in, but they played together as a team. I think knowing how to play against the zone helped us, and a lot of our shots were able to fall in. We're a young team. Having confidence and playing hard will be key for us going forward."
