Thursday may determine which two District 3 Class AA teams advance to the PIAA Class AA Wrestling Team Tournament.

Boiling Springs likely has the No. 1 seed secured, and Biglerville and Bermudian Springs, who meet for the YAIAA Division II championship at 7 p.m. Thursday at Biglerville, are behind the Bubblers with the Nos. 2 and 3 seeds, respectively. But that's where everything becomes tricky.

If the Eagles lose Thursday, they would likely drop to No. 4, meaning they will have to face Boiling Springs in the District 3 Class AA Team Tournament semifinals, assuming both teams win their quarterfinal matches. The Eagles lost 33-26 to the Bubblers on Saturday.

If the Canners lose, both teams will likely retain their seeds and the Canners will have to play host to the Eagles in the district semifinals, assuming both win their quarterfinal matches.

Such is the math with three great teams and just two berths in the state tournament. PA Power Wrestling ranks Boiling Springs No. 2, Biglerville No. 5 and Bermudian Springs No. 9.

"Huge match Thursday night," Eagles coach Dave McCollum said. "The Biglerville-Bermudian Springs match is always big."

He said the Eagles have had five big matches -- Big Spring, Boiling Springs, Chambersburg, Chestnut Ridge and Spring Grove -- but haven't yet had their optimal performance. They went 1-4 against those teams.

"We've been close," McCollum said. "We've had issues we've had to deal with. I think we're starting to come together as a team. I'm just keeping my fingers crossed it happens soon. Now is the time for it to happen, whether it's Thursday night or next Wednesday in the semifinals."

Canners coach Bob Gano said his team is peaking after winning the Juniata Duals this past weekend. He hopes that success carries over to Thursday for a match the Canners began planning for about two weeks ago.

"We just have to wrestle up to our capabilities," he said. "We have to go out and wrestle like we did over the weekend. If we do that, I feel good about our chances. If you wrestle well, whether you win or lose, you got to be happy. You do the best you can and hope it's good enough."; 717-637-3736, extension 139; Twitter: @DanielPaulling
