With the Big 33 Football Classic taking a new look this year, West York senior Brody Kern will be a part of it.

Kern, a four-year starting center, was chosen this past week as a member of the Pennsylvania squad for the annual game. This year, however, the June 15 game at Hersheypark Stadium will be against Maryland, which replaces Ohio.

Once that game is finished, Kern can fully concentrate on his college career. He committed last year to play at Division I-FCS Delaware.

Kern's selection comes after he helped West York to an undefeated regular season and a postseason run that concluded in the District 3 Class AAA final against Bishop McDevitt. With that 13-1 season came a spot on the Pennsylvania Sports Writers All-State Class AAA football team.

When asked about Kern's all-state selection last month, Bulldogs coach Ron Miller said, "He deserves all the recognition he's receiving."

An experienced offensive line, anchored by Kern in the middle, helped Miller's Bulldogs rush for more than 220 yards per game last season.

Kern will be the 48th player from a YAIAA school selected to play in the Big 33 game. South Western graduate Mike Felton was picked for last year's game.
