Abby Lord and Maggie Friel both had strong games to lead the Conestoga High School girls lacrosse team to a 15-10 victory over Downingtown East in their District 1 fifth-place game on Thursday afternoon at Downingtown West's DiSerafino Stadium.

Lord and Friel each had four goals and one assist for the Pioneers. Scottie Growney added three goals and an assist, and 10 draw controls.

Conestoga will be the fifth seed in next week's PIAA playoffs and face the District 1 runner-up in the first round, either Garnet Valley or Springfield (Delco).

Downingtown East will face the District 1 champion.

Brandywine Valley Senior Slowpitch: Goshen Beverage (8-2), who sits in first place in the Gold Division, split a doubleheader against The Untouchables (3-7). In the first game, The Untouchables rallied for a 7-6 victory after trailing 5-0 earlier in the game. Jim Barnett got the win on the mound, as he held Goshen Beverage to just one run over the final five innings. Barnett, Bob Dunn, Jack Williams and Kip Hall each had two hits for the winners.


In the second game of the doubleheader, Goshen Beverage's offense came alive in a 14-8 win. Jim Nee and Ken Ross both went 3-for-3 to lead the Goshen Beverage charge. Also adding strong games were Tom Starke, Ralph Gifford and Dan Velentik. All three had two hits and two RBIs. In addition, Don Burhans was the winning pitcher.In another twin-bill, Valley Forge Harley (6-4) picked up two key victories as they swept (3-7). Valley Forge Harley took the opener by a score of 11-9, and then won the second game 11-4. The bikers were led by strong offensive games in the doubleheader by Don Natale, Dirk Edmiston, Bob Amis, Jerry Hludzik, Dennis Kelley and John Farley. Earl Davis, meanwhile, was the winning pitcher in both games. Additionally, Rick McGlaughlin and Bill Pfeifer were defensive standouts.

In other league action, Cathy Rock Realtor (6-3) defeated Brandywine Gold (3-5) by a score of 14-9 behind some key hits from both Fred DiDomenico and Dave Neall. Cathy Rock Realtor also received strong defensive play from Bob Muscella.
