West Chester Henderson scored all of its runs in one inning and knocked off host Kennett, 5-4, in a Ches-Mont League softball game on Thursday.

The Warriors improved to 8-2 in the league, and knocked Kennett (8-3, 8-4) out of first place in the American Division.

In the top of the fifth, Henderson used five hits, an error and a sacrifice fly to plate its runs.

Miranda Mikelson had an RBI double, while Ali Barnes and Lauren Butts both had RBI singles.

Barnes finished 3-for-4.

Butts pitched a four-hitter with six strikeouts. Her one bad inning was the fifth when Kennett scored three runs on only one hit, an RBI single by Cali Beeson.

Brooke Harner pitched 4.2 innings and was charged with the loss. She gave up six hits and fanned six.

W.C. East 9, Octorara 0: Olivia Rodgers pitched a one-hitter for West Chester East (6-3 league) in the Ches-Mont game.

She struck out six and walked four. Rodgers also went 3-for-3 with a double and an RBI.

East used a combination of 12 hits and Octorara errors to score its runs.

Elizabeth Lapp's fourth-inning single was the only hit for Octorara (2-6 league).

Villa Maria 7, Phoenixville 6: Cailee Gordinier's solo home run over the fence in the bottom of the sixth inning proved to be the game-winner as the Hurricanes (7-2 overall) held on for the impressive nonleague home win.


Gordinier had a big game, going 3-for-4, and her blast in the sixth gave Villa Maria a 7-3 lead.

Phoenixville rallied to cut it to 7-6 with three runs in the top of the seventh, and had runners on second and third with two outs, before Villa's Liz Morgan made a terrific over-the-shoulder catch in right field to end the game.

Sarahrose Jonik went 4-for-4 with two RBIs and a double and triple. Maddie Abbot was the winning pitcher, and also went 2-for-2 at the plate with two RBIs and a double and triple.

Kenny Jarema doubled and scored two runs for the Whippets, Jason Borosky had two hits and two RBIs, and Alex Jankowski delivered a two-run single.

Octorara 6, Sun Valley 2: Chase Thomas started things off for Octorara with a two-run homer in the first inning of the Ches-Mont win.

The Braves (1-7, 1-7) then broke a 2-2 tie with four runs in the sixth. Thomas started the rally with a single.

Jackson Ray and Ryan Young (RBI) also had singles, while Justin Gallagher laid down a successful squeeze bunt.

The final two runs scored on Sun Valley errors.

Ray pitched a complete game and gave up four hits, struck out eight and did not issue a walk.

Sun Valley fell to 2-9 in the league.

W.C. Henderson 27, Pottstown 3: Katie O'Donnell netted a game-high 11 goals as the Warriors rolled to the lopsided nonleague home victory.

Ryan Bauer also had an outstanding game for Henderson, as she scored five goals and added eight assists. Emily Hagan scored three goals, and Sara Laudermilch finished with two.

Shannon Moore and Holly Hager notched five goals apiece for East, which fell to 4-6 overall. Ridley broke a 13-13 tie with three minutes remaining in regulation and held on.

Mark Groenhuysen fired the low round, a 3-over par 38. Nic Pavao and Dylan Torpey also both played well, each shooting 39s.BOYS TRACKWesttown 77, Friends Central 73: Habib N'Garnim was a triple winner as the Quakers (1-1) picked up the hard-fought Friends League victory.

N'Garnim won the high jump, long jump and triple jump. Stuart Tweedie also had a big day, winning both the 100 and 200.

Also placing first for Westtown were Billy Havilend (400), Jaydon McGoldrick (800), Jair Bolden (shot put) and Burak Atuk (discus).Malvern Prep 81, Germantown Academy 40: Andy Pancoast set a school record in the high jump as the Friars (3-0) won the Inter-Ac meet.

Pancoast cleared 6-8 1/2 to set the mark.

Casey Breuer won the 100-meter dash (10.9), 200 (23.1) and 400 (52.0).

Matt Miller took first in the pole vault at 14-0 which set a Malvern stadium record. He also won the triple jump (40-3 1/4).


Westtown 74, Friends Central 67: The Quakers (1-1) won the close Friends League meet behind a strong performance from both Namoi Jimenez and Taylor Griffith.

Jimenez won the high jump and triple jump. Griffith, meanwhile, was victorious in the shot put and discus.

Also winning for Westtown was Katira Dobbins (javelin).
