Another impressive performance by Tony Russell helped the West Chester Henderson boys place sixth in the Pennsylvania Track and Field Coaches Association state meet at Penn State on Saturday.

Russell finished first in the mile with a time of 4:12.65, just four-tenths of a second off the meet record.

He also ran a leg on the winning distance medley relay team (10:24.16) with Steve Thompson, Kevin Moy and Eric Stratman.

Henderson compiled 20 points in the meet, but fell short of Cheltenham's winning total of 46.

The Warriors will compete in the national championships March 14-15 at the New York City Armory.

Westtown's Stuart Tweedie also had a solid meet as he won the 200-meter dash (21.78), and was seventh in the 60-meter dash (7.07).

Westtown tied for 12th with Malvern Prep in the team standings with 12 points.

J'Von Jennings of Downingtown East placed third in the 60 hurdles (8.02).

The Cougars' 4x800 relay team of Tommy Fitzgerald, Adam Carcella, Keelan O'Reilly, and Billy Caldwell took third (7:58.45), and Caldwell was fifth in the mile (4:18.80).

All three times were school records. The team finished tied for ninth with Altoona (16 points).

Malvern Prep's Jaxson Hoey was fourth in the mile (4:17.38), and the distance medley relay team placed fourth (10:36.06).

Andy Pancoast ended up seventh in the high jump (6-4).

Coatesville had three medalists as Tra-C Davis placed fifth in the high jump (6-4), and Mike Burton eighth in the 60 hurdles (8.42).


The 4x200 relay team of Burton, Austin Shank, Dorian Pennington and Jay Stocker was seventh (1:31.39).

Conestoga's Andrew Marston placed eighth in the 3000 (8:50.06).


PTFCA State Meet: Unionville won the distance medley relay (12:09.22), and finished tied for seventh in the team standings with Strath Haven and Central Bucks West (18 points).

Olivia Young, Anna Juul, Cami Rickenbach and Courtney Smith made up the DMR.

Smith placed third in the 3000 (10:00.69), while Young ended up seventh in the mile (5:03.63)

Great Valley's 4x800 relay team was second (9:11.76), and Carol Burgess was seventh in the long jump (17-2 1/2).

The Downingtown East 4x800 relay team of Amanda Koser, Lexi VanBlunk, Maggie Ferry, and Anja Weiler clocked in sixth (9:34.09).

Avon Grove's McKenna Keegan was seventh in the 400 (58.96), and Moriah Fitzgerald seventh in the pole vault (11-6).

The Conestoga distance medley relay team placed sixth 12:47.80.

Villa Maria had three medalists.

Grace Trucilla took fifth in the 800 (2;15.98), Claire Brown was sixth in the 800 (2:15.99), and the 4x800 relay team was eighth (9:39.02).


Mount St. Joseph 60, West Chester Rustin 48: Adashia Franklyn led the Golden Knights (23-6) with 17 points in the District 1 Class AAAA third-place game.

Katie O'Hare and Courtney Warley added 10 points apiece.

Alex Louin led Mount St. Joseph with 27 points and Carly Monzo added 14.

Rustin awaits its first-round PIAA game against the District 3 fourth-place team, Manheim Township, next Friday at a time and place to be determined.
