The District 3 Class AA wrestling standings should have a clear new leader.

Boiling Springs High canned Biglerville, 50-19, on Wednesday night at Biglerville.

The Bubblers won behind a six-bout stretch that included five consecutive pins and one technical fall.

"I was a little embarrassed," Biglerville coach Bob Gano said after his team's first loss in 16 dual meets this season.

He let those words settle with a lengthy pause.

"But the sun comes out tomorrow," he added. "I said to the kids, 'Listen, things got a little bit out of hand.' There's nothing I could do. They have to get themselves out of that. We can give them all the technique in the world. They have to figure it out.

According to the District 3 power rankings, Boiling Springs (8-0) has now beaten District 3 Class AA's No. 3, Bermudian Springs -- which the Bubblers edged, 29-26, on Jan. 2 at home -- and easily beat Biglerville, which was ranked first because of its previously perfect record.

Bubblers coach Rod Wright was much more pleased with Wednesday's performance compared to what his team displayed against the Eagles.

"I told them I was embarrassed," he said he told his team the day after the Bermudian Springs match. "I don't know if they were ready to hear that after beating a good team. In my mind, we were clearly better than what we were on Monday night (against Bermudian Springs).

"I told the kids during the roll-around, 'Hey, just don't wrestle like you did at home against Bermudian. Wrestle like you can and tonight will take care of itself.' They wrestled tonight. That's Boiling Springs wrestling."

Biglerville (15-1) jumped to an early four-point lead, 13-9, when Joe Hurda pinned Nathan Gouhin in 2 minutes, 35 seconds in the 185-pound bout.

The Bubblers then scored 41 consecutive points.

Gano said his team went into the match believing it could win at heavyweight, 126 and 132. They lost all three instead.

"Once you give up what you think you're going to win, the next guy in like is, 'Oh, jeez,'" Gano said. "And it becomes contagious. The avalanche got going. We did what we could. It didn't go our way."

Boiling Springs' Logan Murphy started the stretch by pinning Juan Martinez in 1:01 in the 195-pound bout, and teammate Calvin Barrick did the same to Eric Showers in 1:32 one bout later. The match was mathematically over when Joey Byers pinned Danny May in 3:04 in the 113-pound match.

The streak must've been calming for Wright, who, after leaving school, returned early -- against the protests of his wife -- to work with his team.

"We've had some stretches like that," Wright said. "Have we had stretches like that against a caliber of team like Biglerville? No. They're a quality team."

Laike Gardner, Tyler Lieberum and Josh Asper all won for the Canners.

Following the six big wins, Kyle Shoop earned a 9-2 decision against star Biglerville wrestler Trevor Hernandez. Teammate Mark Lentz then had a 5-2 decision over Jasper Hankey for Boiling Springs' eighth consecutive win.

Wright had an interesting perspective on Hankey afterward.

"Man, that's a lanky kid," Wright said. "He's Gumby. Holy, moly, isn't he Gumby?"; 717-637-3736, ext. 139
