Despite being in just her second season of competitive golf, York Catholic's Lauren Parrini made it the whole way to the PIAA tournament and was named YAIAA Division III Golfer of the Year.

She recently discussed her reaction to learning she'd made the state tournament, her match-day superstitions and more.

Why your sport?

I grew up in a family that golfed. My dad golfed, my little brother golfed since 4 and me since 7.

What would you change about your sport?

I would try to get more girls involved. It's a really great opportunity for girls, and not enough take advantage of it. There are so many scholarships and you can play the rest of your life.

Do you have any superstitions on game days?

My teammates have a lot of them, but I usually drink a yellow Gatorade. I shot my lowest with it so I stuck with it. I never wear the same color socks.

What opponent do you most enjoy to play with?

Two players I really enjoyed with Tori Ross and Shannon Webber. They are two really great players and we get along.

What was your favorite moments of the season?

Definitely when I found out I made it to states especially when I didn't play well at Regionals. I was jumping around, hugging a lot of people, I was so excited.

If your sport wasn't offered, what sport would you play?

Swimming used to be my big sport. I swam on a team from the time I was 3 through ninth grade. Swimming got cut in our school, and by then I kind of grew out of that, and that's when I started to focus on golf.

Who is your role model?

I'd say my grandma really inspired me to be an all-around good person. She passed away a couple years ago and when I'm on the golf course and I find myself upset or frustrated I think about how she would handle it and it calms me down.

Which pro sports team is your least favorite and why?

I'd probably say the Pittsburgh Steelers or the New York Jets. I'm a big Patriots fan and I grew up not liking the Steelers and the Jets.

In a "Freaky Friday" type move, you switch bodies with someone else. Who would you want to be for a day?

I'd probably want to be Jennifer Lawrence. She's a really cool actress and I really like the Hunger Games.

What's your favorite activity off the links?

I really enjoy spending time with my friends and family because during golf season it can get really stressful. When I get to relax and spend time with the people I love it's fun. I also like to sing. I'm in York County Senior Honors Choir.

If you had a day all to yourself with no responsibilities, what would you do?

I would probably go somewhere that was warm and I could either swim or play golf.

What's the farthest distance you've ever been away from home?

Hawaii or Alaska.

What college are going to and what will you study?

My plan is to go somewhere in New England, I really like Boston College, and I'll decide by next summer if I want to play golf in college. I want to be a psychologist, so my undergrad work will be really important for medical school.
